Nigerian music sensation Wizkid has announced the title of his next album, “Morayo,” and also renounced being an Afrobeats artist.

In a series of posts made on his Instagram stories, he said, “Album done! see you soon b*tches! Album name ‘Morayo” best I ever made!”

The album “Morayo” is not just another addition to Wizkid’s discography; it holds a profound personal significance as it is dedicated to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.

Wizkid seems to be distancing himself from the Afrobeats genre, a style that has been synonymous with his name for years.

In regard to this, he said, “I am not a fucking afrabeats artiste! Don’t call me that h*e! And pls Abeg if u like Pakurumo Wizkid, don’t download this new album; in fact, delete me from ur playlist and your life! And if u like afrabeats pis, dan’t downlaad my album!”

Known for hits like “Ojuelegba” and “Essence,” he has consistently captivated audiences with his unique blend of sounds.

However, with “Morayo,” he challenges his fans to embrace the evolution of his music, stating, “Don’t call me an Afrobeats artiste. I’m not Afro anything”.

Wizkid began his music career at age 11. He gained recognition with his debut studio album “Superstar” in 2011, featuring the hit single “Holla at Your Boy”.

His international breakthrough came with his collaboration on Drake’s “One Dance”, which topped global charts. His track “Essence” from the album “Made in Lagos” became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Wizkid has also won a Grammy Award for his contribution to Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl.”
